Palmi (RC) is running up to achieve the prestigious certification, of Tsunami Ready coastal municipality, issued by the IOC-UNESCO.
Yesterday, Monday 22 May, at the Palmi Municipality, the first meeting was held in the presence of the Municipality's Mayor, assessors, some representatives of the Local Police, the Coast Guard, members of the local Civil Protection and some researchers from the INGV Tsunami Alert Centre. During the meeting, a progress report was given on the activities planned by the 12 indicators worth Tsunami Ready Municipality certification.
Among these activities are three annual dissemination and awareness-raising interventions to the public. Therefore, today morning, the main hall of Palmi's renovated Manfroce Theatre hosted over 130 students from the 'Nicola Pizi' Higher Education Institute.
During the meeting, the study questionnaire on tsunami risk perception was administered and then the INGV researchers involved the students in an interactive lesson supported by educational videos. The meeting concluded with a projection of the film "The Impossible".
Municipal administration members, in cooperation with the local police, completed the installation of the signs (horizontal and vertical) for tsunami risk - provided for in the Civil Protection plan for tsunami risk - along the entire stretch of municipal coastline and installed a remotely activated sound warning system. The municipality is also equipped with a warning application for the mitigation of territorial risks including tsunami risk.
