Today, 29.03.24, at 07:12 UTC, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake was detected offshore Greece at geographic coordinates (lat, lon) 37.33N 21.15E and a hypocentral depth of approximately 10 km.
The earthquake's magnitude and hypocentral location, behind the matrix decision-making system, activated the Tsunami Alert Centre which, at 07:17 UTC, sent an INFORMATION message to the Civil Protection Department and the Mediterranean countries that subscribed to the CAT services.
The seismologists on duty at the Tsunami Alert Centre monitoring room in Rome analysed the earthquake parameters and issued the information message - as occurred for the 14.03.24 event in Montenegro - in just 5 minutes.
