Manzanillo Messico 19.09.22
The earthquake recorded today in Mexico has generated a tsunami warning. The image shows the tide gauge signal installed in Manzanillo harbor (Colima, Mexico). The graph shows the sea level change (dispersion points) after 18:00pm (UTC).

On September 19, 2022, at 1:05 pm local time (8:05 pm Italian time), an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 was recorded in the coastal region of Michoacan (Mexico), overlooking the North Pacific Ocean (Lat.18.6430, Lon -102.9810) about 20 km away from the sea and 80 km south of the city of Tecomàn, at a depth of about 20 km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami alert, for possible variations in sea level between 1-3 meters high on the Pacific coasts of Mexico. The tsunami was confirmed by looking at the sea level measurement stations around the epicenter and later further away. At 2:24 pm local time (9:24 pm Italian time), the tide gauge in Manzanillo (about 50 km north of the epicenter), has recorded a change in sea level of about 80 cm. The Zihuatanejo tide gauge at 2:42 pm local time has recorded a change in sea level of about 50 cm.

In the following hours, other signals did confirm the occurrence of a tsunami, with measured heights of up to 1 meter in Manzanillo. The alert was cancelled by the PTWC during the night.
