A 5.5 magnitude earthquake occurred offshore the southern coast of Crete Island, Greece. The figure shows the Forecast-points (green triangles) in which the alert levels are estimated. The isochrones (concentric curves starting from the epicenter) represent the tsunami propagation times estimated in the rapid simulation.

Today, 12.29.2021, at 05:08 UTC, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake was located offshore Crete Island, Greece's southern coast at coordinates (lat, lon) 34.51N 25.04E and about 18 km hypocentral depth.

The earthquake magnitude and the hypocentral localization, according to the decisional matrix, activated the Tsunami Alert Center service that within 7 minutes from the earthquake (05:15 UTC), sent an INFORMATION message to the Civil Protection Department and to the Mediterranean Countries.
