Meeting organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO for the NEAM area (external link), held by teleconference on November 24 and 26, allowed a comparison between the Working Groups (4) and Task Teams (3), led by the technical secretariat, on the goals achieved, the state of the art of active projects and exposed, upcoming initiatives that will take shape in the NEAM area.
During the debate, particular attention was given to Tsunami Ready program involving Working Group 4 (WG4) for community awareness and preparedness and tsunami risk mitigation.
The program will be enhanced in the broader context of the Ocean Decade 2021-2030 (external link), the decade that the United Nations dedicates to ocean sciences for sustainable development against declining ocean health and in support of the exponential growth of the population that lives and will live on global coasts.
