On September 18, 2020 at 18:28 Italian time a magnitude Mwp 5.9 earthquake was located in the Mediterranean Sea, off the southern coast of the island of Crete in Greece, with epicenter at geographical coordinates (lat, lon) 34.81,25.27 at a hypocentral depth of about 20 km.
The event's magnitude, just above the minimum attention threshold, triggered the service of the Tsunami Alert Centre which, within 7 minutes after the earthquake (18:35), sent an INFORMATION message to the Civil Protection Department and the Mediterranean countries.
