Meeting Cipro Larnaca Lorito

Today's second day of meetings in Cyprus for defining the local tsunami hazard and flooding areas in Larnaca.

During the meeting, INGV Tsunami Alert Centre researchers will present the work carried out in recent months together with the National Observatory of Athens (Greece), coordinator of the initiative, and the University of Cantabria (Spain).

CAT researchers' work (Lorito-Brizuela-Basili-Volpe-Amato), in collaboration with Pio Di Manna (ISPRA) also present in Cyprus, consisted in defining high-resolution tsunami scenarios (over 20,000) and possible inundation areas with their uncertainties.

Today, 28 June, the scientific component will meet with the local authorities in Cyprus, to present the results of the work carried out to date, to enable decision-makers make the most appropriate choices for tsunami risk mitigation. The meeting will be hosted at the Zenon Joint Rescue Centre in Larnaca.

Yesterday, 27 June, there was a discussion between the project participants and a delegation of experts from Cyprus, including the Geological Survey, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), where the meeting on the 27th took place, and local universities.

This study is part of the CoastWAVE project's activities to facilitate discussion on the definition of inundation zones and evacuation planning in case of a tsunami warning in the NEAM region.
