NEAM Regional Online Webinars

On 27 November 2025, UNESCO-IOC will organise a webinar focused on non-seismic tsunamis events triggered by volcanic eruptions, landslides, or atmospheric disturbances that pose challenges to traditional tsunami warning systems.

This webinar brings together leading scientists and coastal resilience experts in NEAM region to discuss diverse tsunami origins and their impacts on vulnerable NEAM Member States.

and is also open to participants from Intergovernmental Coordinating Groups (ICG) in other regions, to discuss the different sources of tsunamis and their impacts on vulnerable coastal communities.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Types of non-seismic tsunamis (volcanic, landslide, and meteotsunami)
  • Case studies from the NEAM-COMMITMENT project
  • Updates on early warning systems and community preparedness, in line with the Tsunami Ready programme

The webinar is part of the UN Ocean Decade Tsunami Programme and will be held online from 10:00 to 12:30 CET (UTC+1).

INGV Tsunami Alert Centre (CAT) researchers are promoting this regional webinar, which represents a unique opportunity for scientists, local authorities, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and enhance coastal community resilience.
