Today, November 5, is the World Tsunami Awareness Day #TsunamiDay 2022 (WTAD 2022).
For the occasion, the municipality of Minturno, an Italian Tsunami Ready candidate, has planned a field exercise to sensitize the pupils of two schools to the tsunami risk.
On November 4 at 11:00 am, the Local Civil Protection tested the mobile alert system installed on a pick-up car of the local Civil Protection reached the square close to the "Angelo De Santis" middle school and the "Gianni Rodari" primary school, triggering the evacuation.
The sound signal emitted by the siren of the vehicle, in conjunction with the notice issued by the Civil Protection volunteers, activated the evacuation plan for tsunami alert in both institutes.
The students, following the emergency protocols, moved to the upper floors of the building where, assisted by the teaching staff, they waited for the signal to end the exercise.
The CAT-INGV researchers, present during the exercise, subsequently held a debriefing session with the students and teaching staff who took part in the evacuation. Furthermore, didactic / informative material on tsunami risk was distributed (Italian Book).
This exercise, carried out on the occasion of WTAD 2022, is part of the activities foreseen by the Tsunami Ready program.
