Coastal slope exposed to possible sea level changes (source: JMA)
Today, 16 March 2022, at 23:36 local time (15:36 Italian time), a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in the North Pacific Ocean at sea (Lat. 37.67, 141.50) offshore the east coast of Fukushima Prefecture, about 60 km deep.
The Japan Metereological Agency (external link) has issued a local tsunami warning for possible sea level changes of 0.3 to 1m in height on the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.
At 00:29 local time, a 20cm sea level change was recorded by the tide gauge at Ishinomaki-Ko Port in Miyagi Prefecture.
