8.1 Sea Level Kermadec Nuova Zelanda

Today, March 4, 2021, at 19:28 UTC (20:28 Italian time) [05.03.2021; 08:28 local time], a magnitude Mwpd 7.8 earthquake was recorded in the South Pacific Ocean (Lat. -29.35, -176.92 E) offshore of the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand , about 10 km deep.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (external link) has issued a tsunami alert for an expected sea level change of more than 3 meters in height on the coasts of the Kermadec Islands, between 1 and 3 meters in height for the coasts of the islands of New Caledonia and Vanuatu and between 30 cm and 1 meter for the Antarctic coasts of Australia, Chile, Colombia, Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji Islands, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Peru, Tonga Islands.

The first alert message sent at 19:42, was followed by a tsunami confirmation message, issued at 22:20 (see alert cycle).
