A 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Southern Ionian Sea, off Zakynthos's coast (Greece). The figure shows the Forecast-points (green triangles) in which the alert levels are estimated. The isochrones (concentric curves starting from the epicenter) represent the tsunami propagation times estimated in the rapid simulation.
On the december 15, at 11:41pm a 5.8 magnitude earthquake was located in Southern Ionian Sea, off Zakynthos's coast (Greece) at coordinates (lat, lon) 37.50N 20.20E and about 19 km hypocentral depth.
The earthquake magnitude and the hypocentral localization, according to the decisional matrix, activated the Tsunami Alert Center service that at 11:49 pm UTC, sent an INFORMATION message to the Civil Protection Department and to the Mediterranean Countries.
